Abstract:

Objective(s): According to the unique properties of magnetic nanoparticles, their usages in medicine and industry have increased in the last decade. Due to the vital role of liver in the body, the accumulation of CoFe2O4 and CoFe2O4@DMSA was studied. Materials and Methods:The nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation method and were coated with DMSA. The techniques XRD, TEM, DLS, FTIR, AGFM and UV-Visible spectroscopy were used to characterize the nanoparticles. Nanoparticles were injected intraperitoneally in rat and blood samples were collected from the rats’ heart, at 15 and 30 day post injection. The liver of each rat was removed and kept frozen at -70 oC. Results:The size of the pure cobalt ferrite and DMSA coated cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were about 10 nm and 12 nm, respectively. The saturation magnetization of CoFe2O4 and CoFe2O4@DMSA nanoparticles were 44.8 and 33 emu/g, respectively. Statistical analysis of the results indicated that cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were accumulated in liver in all groups. Conclusion: The accumulation of nanoparticles in liver was significantly higher than those of the control group and the level of liver iron accumulation was significantly lower after 30 days of injection in comparison with 15 days post injection in all groups.

Continuous hydrothermal synthesis of polymer-coated Fe2O3 and CoFe2O4 nanoparticles

Metal oxide nanoparticles are of practical interest in a variety of applications including high-density information storage [1], magnetic resonance imaging [2] and targeted drug delivery [3]. Many of these applications require particles of predetermined size and narrow size distribution. Processes that lead to particles with these characteristics are therefore of considerable interest. Cobalt f...

Coprecipitation Synthesis of CoFe2O4 Nanoparticles for Hyperthermia

Cobalt ferrite (CoFe2 O4 ) nanoparticles have attracted significantly attentions for spintronics, recording media and bioapplications due to their unique magnetic and chemical properties. In this work, single phase CoFe2 O4 nanoparticles were synthesized at various coprecipitation temperatures (60, 80 and 90 °C) without post calcination. The effects of oleic acid as surfactant on the microstruc...

Toxicity of PEG-Coated CoFe2O4 Nanoparticles with Treatment Effect of Curcumin

In this work, CoFe2O4 nanoparticles coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) were successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal technique. Morphological studies of the samples confirmed the formation of polycrystalline pure-phase PEG-CoFe2O4 nanoparticles with sizes of about 24 nm. Toxicity induced by CoFe2O4 nanoparticles was investigated, and biological assays were performed to check the toxicity ...

Synthesis of Silica Coated Magnetic Nanoparticles

In this research controlled coating of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles with SiO2 was investigated. The Fe3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized via chemical co-precipitation and then coated by silica according to Stober method. Effects of tetra ethyl ortho silicate (TEOS) concentration and ethanol to TEOS on the coating thickness were inves...
